Since I'm wrapping up A Beautiful Disaster I decided to dive into National Novel Writer's Month this year with a brand new project. This year I'm also trying to plot things out more and I'm attempting the snowflake method. It's going much better this time than the first time I tried it. I think the trick for me is not to start cold. I need to let an idea percolate for a while and I've been percolating on The Monster Within for many years. It used to be called Mists on the Seine, but that title never worked for me.

It's my Lovecraft meets Hugo meets Verne story. The last Chevalier de Rouen and a vagabond must discover the secrets to the mists before the swarm hatches and devours Paris.

Michel-Leon

It's going to be a wild ride. Today I fleshed out our two antagonists and expanded my synopsis. I'm discovering more about this world every day. As much as I wanted to do it sooner, plot elements wouldn't gel, and I couldn't figure out how the mists led to the missing people. Sitting in ICU with my husband this summer gave me a lot of time to think about it and I worked out a lot of what was blocking me. But I had the geeks to finish.

Now it's time to dive into a darker world. Today I'd like you to meet my two heroes. Michel-Leon Parisee, the Baron de Dagonville and the last Chevalier de Rouen. And Constantin Severin, a wandering man of mystery who holds many dangerous secrets.
I love these two. I say that every book I know, but I love these two.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%;">Brenden Wade has made a
name for himself promoting events and has turned his micromanaging,
organizational skills toward his second love comic book conventions. He has
worked toward making Chessie Con the biggest name in the Chesapeake Bay area
all with the help of his best friend Dakota Nye. Only now, the weight of the
secrets he’s been carrying since they were teenagers threatens their
friendship.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%;">Dakota wants to enjoy
life by the moment, run his podcast, and annoy his plus one as they run their
conventions. He has never believed himself capable of settling down. But
Brenden makes Dakota dream of possibilities. He sees no problem testing the
heat between them. After all what happens between friends is no one’s business.
He never expected to discover that Brenden is in love with him.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 105%;">One night of passion
changes both men’s preconceptions. Brenden is faced with everything he’s ever
wanted but he risks having another family turn their back on him when they
discover his broken promise. The last thing Dakota wants to do is hurt Brenden,
but he doesn’t trust himself to stay even if Brenden has him longing for a
future. Both of them are scarred by their past, but they know that no matter
what they always figure out where to go together, especially when their hearts
are on the line.

Check out this beautiful cover by Kanaxa. She is doing an amazing job with these. I can't wait to work with her for the third book. Let me tell you, that smile is pure Felipe. I'm delighted by it and the warm, happy colors suit him.

I love the characters in this book. Sass touches on many themes that are personal to my life. I'll be announcing a blog tour probably sometime in December and I'm sure I'll be talking about those themes.

But I really hope you enjoy Trask and Felipe's story. They are just so sweet. All of the couples for the Geek Life series have been such a joy to write. I'm excited!
Shadows blanketed the hallway, but he had grown accustomed to making his way through the museum with just the security lights for illumination. The museum wasn’t that big, and it didn’t take him long to get to the new exhibit. Galen paused in the doorway, stunned by the sight before him. The security lights hadn’t been set up here yet, but the row of skylights stretching across the roof faced the rising full moon, and the room was awash with a pale-blue glow. In the shadows and light, the statue facing him looked almost alive, ready to move at any moment and finish the action he’d started.

Galen walked over to him, his heart thudding, and laid his hand on the man’s forearm. How surreal. For a moment it almost seemed like heated flesh beneath his fingers and not cooler bronze. “Who are you, Dexios? And why do you seem so familiar to me?”

Silence answered him, and Galen had the insane urge to slip under those embracing arms to press himself up against the man. He stepped back with a short, uneasy laugh and stuck his hand into his pocket. With his luck he’d get stuck. He didn’t want to hear Suzane’s laughter the next morning when she found him entangled with a statue. He’d never live it down.

This obsession, this inability to get these statues out of his mind, was unhealthy. He needed to go home and relax, as Suzane had suggested. Go home and find some way to get Nick out of his thoughts.

“Shouldn’t you prefer flesh and bone to metal? You never were one to put your faith in the mystical.”

Galen stiffened and spun around to face the man in the wide arched doorway. Adrenaline raced through him and his breath quickened. At first all he could see were shadows, and then the man stepped into the moonlight. He wore no undershirt beneath his breastplate and the studded leather fringe that hung from his waist did nothing to hide his muscular thighs. A teasing smile played on his lips and his eyes held mysteries in the shadows and light. Galen couldn’t tell what color they were or what the man intended. “Would you kiss these lips now that I stand before you?”

Galen’s breath caught on a wave of recognition. “Nick?” Wait, no. Not quite, but similar. This man’s hair came to his shoulders in thick waves, unlike Nick’s short, rumpled style groomed to look careless. Old scars ridged his arms and legs. And though Nick worked out, this man had hard muscles all over as if he drove himself all the time. In fact, now that he looked at him closer, Galen was uncomfortably reminded of his sexy statue. They even had scars in the same places.

The back of his neck prickled with uneasy awareness. If he turned around, would he still see it standing in its place behind him? He wavered between looking over his shoulder and keeping his eyes on the strange man before him. It was a ridiculous thought—statues didn’t wake up and move around. He really needed to get away from this place and take a break if he was having thoughts like that.

“Nick? That is an interesting pet name, not one you have used before. What does it mean?”

Galen stumbled back, almost falling as the man moved closer. His hands caught a hold of metal and he clung to the reassurance that he hadn’t lost his entire grip on reality. This man wasn’t the statue come to life. “Who the hell are you?”

The coaxing smile died and his eyes widened. “You don’t remember? A part of you always does. Could it have been so long this time?” He tapped Galen’s chest just over his heart. The physical contact was another small comfort. The strange man wasn’t a figment of his imagination, though Galen supposed an intruder wasn’t a better option. “How can you not remember me, remember us?”

Galen looked over his shoulder at the control panel on the wall. He needed a better nighttime security system, maybe even a guard. “I don’t know how you got in here or what possessed you to dress like that, but I suggest you leave before my security comes.” The man did not react the way Galen expected him to with that desperate gamble. Instead, a puzzled look crossed his face as strong hands settled on Galen’s hips.

“I do not understand the words you say. You look different, yet I know it is you born again to bring me to life.” Those hands on his hips tugged, and Galen gasped as groin met groin with a hot tingle of awareness. Oh yes, hard all over. Damn, it had been so long since he had another man against him. And the resemblance to Nick made it even more disorienting. “Kiss me, Lykon. Make me whole again.” Marguerite Labbehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07440367900311420373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651057450157134846.post-8051979208192417132018-01-01T11:48:00.002-08:002018-01-01T11:48:55.020-08:00Happy 2018Well, it's the start of another year and once again I'm getting over an illness. Last year it was the stomach flu, this year some kind of sinus thing but that's what you get when you have 19 people under one roof for an extended holiday with 7 of them kiddies of various ages. The germs were strong with them this year. But I think we're kicking the bug in time to drive back home tomorrow.

As much as I may worry about a year ahead. (2017 was a banner for anxieties.) It's impossible to start out the year on a sour note. Fifteen years ago, in the middle of a Southern Maryland ice storm my son was born three weeks early, after scaring us into thinking he was going to come a couple months early. This kid clearly had a mind of his own and we headed to the hospital right after the ball dropped. Since then we've had the tradition of singing Happy Birthday to him as it comes down.

So happy birthday my sweet Moose the Meme Lord. I love you and I cannot wait to see what you will accomplish in 2018 or see you in your flight suit for Space Camp. If it still actually fits you when the time arrives. Last year brought you your Confirmation, graduation from middle school and the start of high school, your first girlfriend and your first heartbreak. 2018 will be just as action-packed and awesome. Just you wait and see.
I work a regular day job Monday through Friday with a long commute. And as much fun as comic book conventions are, they are work too and they often involve travel time. I need my weekends to catch up on house cleaning and errand running and sometimes hiding in a corner with a cat on my lap, a cup of coffee at my elbow, and a book in my hands. So sometimes I’ll tell my husband to go on without me and have lots of fun. Usually, our son will go with him when given a choice. I can blame him for picking to get up early and work a table over whatever chores he knows I’ll lay on him if he stays.

The first one, Star Wars Days, is organized and run by a local Boy Scout Troop. This particular Boy Scout Troop petitioned to be the 501 Troop and then contacted the 501st Legion in their area to be involved with their event. The 501st Legion is a worldwide cosplaying group dedicated to Star Wars. And the convention that the Boy Scout Troop puts on is amazing. They have standees of many characters for photo ops. There are droids zipping around. The 501st Legion is there in full get up. And they have a Jedi training center in the gym. The young men are running around the whole weekend taking food orders from the vendors, providing directions, and helping out with every little task that they can. It's so much fun.

At the con, we provide classes throughout the weekend that kids can attend. My husband did a class on drawing aliens. Since this wasn’t a regular table gig and space was limited, I found an out of the way place and worked on edits and writing in between a little Christmas shopping with the vendors and catching up with some friends that I haven’t seen in a while. My husband has been with Artway Alliance for about four years now. They provide afterschool artistic activities and classes to local schools as well as attending cons like this all over the place.

Our very first comic book convention as vendors was this con. Over the years the people there have become family. My son is one of their volunteers. We almost always have our podcast Role With Us as one of the panels where we run a live game. My husband either has a table where he sells his artwork or run’s a kid’s section where kids can come and sit and color or draw for a bit. Sometimes he’ll have classes, sometimes he’ll do commissions or both. They had a scavenger hunt for the kiddies and we handed out prizes. This is my favorite time of year even if it's been raining all week. I love the view of my yard from my windows as I write and I'm listening to the boys watching sports moving between college football for my husband and soccer for my son. I wanted to share an excerpt from "My Heart is Within You," the first book in the Triquetra Bundle that came out yesterday with Dreampsinner Press. It's the first time Jake gets a glimpse of the vampire who has been stalking him for the last month. Kristair would argue that it wasn't stalking, just staking a claim, but I think he's deluding himself.

The crammed sidewalks thinned and swirled and then opened up,
giving me a clear view across the street. Once again I froze, staring at the
man standing just under the streetlamp. Oh god. He looked strangely
normal in his jeans and cream sweater that set off the rich tone of his
skin. The light above created a halo around his head and shoulders. He
almost could’ve been a young working man, trying to relive his college
days, but the dangerous aura around him was obvious. He was no
damned angel.

And I wasn’t the only one who sensed it. His sidewalk was as
crowded as mine, with drunken students trolling the avenues, searching
for a party and showing off their costumes, yet as one they all parted and
flowed around him. No one came close enough to jostle him, no one told him to get out of the way, as people were bitching to me. No, he was a
predator. He was the predator and I was his prey.

I should be scared. Forget scared. I should be outta my mind,
shitting my pants like the time the gator got onto the pontoon while my
friend and I were collecting crawfish traps. However, the last thing I was
capable of feeling right now was fear.

Enthralled, I stepped to the edge of the curb, barely registering the
cars going by, as I drank him in as if I were dying and he was the last
thread connecting me to this life. It was hard to make out the details of
his face, but his skin was golden, his body long and lean. His eyes bored
right into me and I imagined they were that shade of brown that was so
deep it was like you were sinking right into them. His head was shaved
and, for some reason, I couldn’t quite pin his race down. It was like he
could claim any number of ethnicities, or maybe something else, long
since gone.

He was more darkly striking than the moonlight on the bayou back
home, or the haunting song of the cicadas, or whatever else made me
think of beauty, danger, and sorrow at once.
It has been a crazy, crazy couple of months. After living for 13 years in the house my son grew up in we moved to a new place. We'd outgrown our old place and the heating and air conditioning was going. The more money we poured into repairs, the more things were falling apart. So we decided it was time. Our landlord wants to flip it and sell it. A number of other houses in the neighborhood are going the same route. It's been around for a long time.

As we were packing and shifting my husband fell ill and was bedridden for a few weeks. So it was a stressful time. But we're in our new home now and he's on his feet again and we're looking forward to our new lives.

In other exciting news, DSP Publications contracted "Pandora." It'll be out April 2017. I'm working on submitting ideas for the cover art now.

Now that things have settled. I hope to update more often.Marguerite Labbehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07440367900311420373noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3651057450157134846.post-51160244081696829512016-04-11T18:45:00.004-07:002016-04-11T18:45:48.763-07:00Update - New SubmissionHey everyone. I know it's been forever. This last year has been crazy with my parents' move to South Carolina and a huge renovation at work. We've been clearing out more than a decade's worth of attorneys stuffing every paper they ever collected into any hidey-hole they could find. My floor was finally finished in March. Now there's only one floor to go. So I'm hoping for a much calmer year.

On the exciting news front and not the boring EDJ side. I submitted my sci-fi/horror novel Pandora last week. Keep your fingers crossed. This is an intense one. :D
Life’s complicated enough with their friendship crossing racial lines in 1960s Charleston, South Carolina, but as time passes, they realize it’s more than their friendship that sets them apart from other kids. At first, Caleb denies his feelings for Hal could be more than companionship. He supports his friend when Hal admits he’s gay, but Caleb isn’t ready to face his own truth.

Hal becomes a staunch antiwar protester, and the divide between them widens after Caleb is drafted. But when Caleb returns from Vietnam, the time for denial is over. His homecoming sets off a series of events that force Caleb and Hal to confront their desires and what lines they’re willing to cross to get what they truly want out of life.
Hello everybody. Four Days and Counting Down! I can’t
believe it before “Other Side of the Line” will be released from Dreamspinner Press.

Caleb and Hal meet when they are eight years old and
throughout their lives they faced many rough moments that they weathered
through the strength of their friendship. But what happens when distance
threatens that closeness? Hal’s dad has been transferred back to New York and
Hal and Caleb are forced to say goodbye just as they’re discovering more about
themselves and how they feel about each other. I hope you enjoy. <span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

They lounged in silence, the stuffy heat in the fort
worsening as the sun rose higher. As hot as it was, Caleb didn’t want to let
go. If only they had more days together like this, more mornings when they
could slip away to the fort to be alone. A thought flitted through his head.
What would it be like to kiss Hal? His heart did a funny flip. He’d thought
about kissing Theresa and never had that reaction, but then again, he hadn’t
had that reaction with another guy either. Just Hal.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

school year?” Hal asked, lifting his head. Caleb found himself staring into his
gray-green eyes, and the sense that there was only the two of them in the world
grew stronger.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I think we were both acting strange.” Caleb remembered
how he’d treated Hal with a wince of regret. They’d both been hot and cold, one
minute pushing each other away, the next seeking each other out again. He
wished now that he’d talked about it with Hal, even if he didn’t know how to
phrase all the conflicting emotions.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I was afraid you’d notice I wasn’t into girls, and
I felt bad because I had a secret. I’d never had a secret from you before. I
wanted to tell you, but….” Hal trailed off, and Caleb had a gut instinct there
was more to it than Hal’s attraction to boys, something unsaid. Caleb had to look
away because he became vividly aware of Hal’s body pressed against his own.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

Caleb had never thought about it that way, but he
supposed he had a secret too. Now with Hal getting ready to leave, Caleb wasn’t
sure what to do about it either. With the way Hal’s dad screwed with his head
and Hal’s uncertain temper, how could Caleb tell him as his parting words,
“Hey, you made me uncomfortable, so I thought the only way to handle it was by
keeping my distance”? Just the thought of talking about it made his palms sweat
and his stomach churn.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I don’t blame you for feeling like you couldn’t tell me,
not with the way I was acting,” Caleb replied.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I just wish….” Once again, Hal trailed off, but this
time there was no doubt what he meant, because Caleb also felt it.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I know; me too.” He wished they had more time. He wished
he had the courage to say what was in his heart, to hear what Hal had to say.
He wished they could be free to be themselves without the world trying to
dictate who they should be friends with, who they should love.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“Hal? Hal! I know you’re up there.” Lily’s voice called
from the clearing. “Dad’s pitching a fit. He wants to go.”<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

Caleb closed his eyes as his heart thumped painfully
against his ribs. “I’ll write you.”<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“I know,” Hal whispered, his voice lost.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

It wouldn’t be the same. If Caleb had something he wanted
to share with Hal, or if he’d had a bad day and needed to confide in him, it
would be days before those letters would get to Hal and even more days before
he got a response. Caleb wanted to comfort him with words, but his throat had
tightened too much for speech. He hadn’t cried in years, but the aching in his
chest and eyes warned him he was perilously close.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

“Hal?” This time Lily’s voice floated up from the base of
the tree. “Please don’t make me go to New York without you.”<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

Tears pooled behind Caleb’s eyelids. He kissed Hal’s
cheek and let his arms fall away. Hal stared at him for a long moment and then
his lips brushed near Caleb’s, like the breath of a ghost, leaving them
tingling. Before Caleb could react, Hal swung down through the trapdoor.<span style="color: #222222; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 9.5pt;">

Charleston, SC—November 6, 1963

Caleb’s teacher paced across the front of the
classroom, leaning on his cane, his white hair gleaming in the afternoon
sunlight. “Now can anyone name a hero from the War of Northern Aggression?” He
paused and focused on Hal in the front row. Hal had just started in their class
on Monday, coming all the way down from New York. “That would be the Civil War
for those of us who might not understand… given their unfortunate origins.”

“Oooohh!” Hal’s hand shot up. He talked funny, fast
and with a strange high accent. He liked to try to answer all the questions,
and sometimes he stared at Caleb too much, but he never seemed mean about it,
only curious. At least his eyes didn’t slide away as if Caleb’s skin was
covered in rancid oil, and that made for a welcome change.

Mr. Gibbons looked around the room to see if anyone
else wanted to volunteer, and his gaze lingered on Caleb for a moment. Several
answers crowded his mind, and Caleb sifted through them trying to think which
answer would please him the most before settling on General Beauregard. Still,
Caleb remained silent and prayed he wouldn’t be called on again. He wasn’t too
fond of the teacher’s method of asking questions. It made him feel small and
ignorant.

Mr. Gibbons focused on Hal again. “Well, Hal?”

Hal straightened, his shoulders squaring with
pride. “William Tecumseh Sherman.”

The classroom fell silent, not a rustle of a page
or a rattle of a pencil to be heard. Caleb’s mouth fell open as Mr. Gibbons’s
face turned a mottled red, and his hand tightened on the cane. Hal seemed to
sense how deep he’d stepped into it, because he looked around the room, his
little freckled face drawn together in confusion.

He caught Caleb’s eye, and Caleb couldn’t stop
himself from grinning. “Amen,” he mouthed, and Hal smiled back.

“Stupid Yankee,” James snarled under his breath,
breaking the quiet. Caleb glanced at him, saw the way his hands had tightened
into fists and how his gaze glittered through dirty-blond hair. There would be
trouble later on.

Mr. Gibbons pounded the floor with his cane, his
bushy brows coming together in a fierce frown. “Sherman was a war criminal,” he
thundered. Hal turned to face him, his shoulders sagging. “Stand up! Tell me
and your classmates why you think a man who burns his way through enemy
country, depriving its citizens of food and shelter, should be called a hero?”

Hal stood reluctantly and glanced around at the
rest of the class for support that wasn’t there. “Umm, I guess that wouldn’t be
very heroic, sir.”

“Do you think a man who tries to break the spirit
of a people in the name of conquest should be called a hero?”

“No, sir,” Hal said again, his voice even quieter
now. He stared down at his feet and flinched when James snickered. Caleb felt
the pang of remembered humiliation when he’d been in similar situations. It was
mighty painful to be the object of everyone’s attention when Mr. Gibbons had
his irritation focused on you.

“Speak up, young man! Don’t mumble.” Mr. Gibbons
jabbed his cane in Hal’s direction. “I cannot abide a child who cannot make
themselves understood. They have no place in my classroom. Answer the
question.”

“No, sir!”

“You need to reexamine your definition of a hero,
now sit down and remain silent until you have something positive to offer.” Mr.
Gibbons pounded his cane again for emphasis.

Hal dropped into his seat, the nape of his neck
turning a fiery red. He remained quiet for the rest of the afternoon, his head
bowed, his whole body hunched. Caleb felt another one of those little pangs.
He’d been in that same exact position too many times to count, afraid to meet
Mr. Gibbons’s gaze, and forced to hear the other students whispering about him.
It was horrible.

James especially made his opinions about Hal known
with several vicious comments pitched low so Mr. Gibbons, with his worsening
hearing, wouldn’t catch. Hal certainly did hear them and curled in even
tighter. Hal was sure in for it now. He probably didn’t realize how bad though.
Caleb should be glad James’s attention was turned from him, at least for now,
but he couldn’t help but feel sorry for Hal. It wasn’t going to be pretty when
Mr. Gibbons released them for the day.

If Caleb was smart, he’d be long gone before that
happened. Maybe he’d get a chance to warn Hal to get himself home fast, though
that would only delay the inevitable. Sure as the sun rose over the Atlantic,
James would make sure to get his licks in whenever he could.

At first, Caleb denies his feelings for Hal could be more than companionship. Now that I've recovered from my dueling deadlines for two stories that couldn't be more different from each other, it's time to dive back into work. I'd like to hit the 40% mark for the fantasy. I think that's easily doable. I'd also like to take a look at the mystery I started, part of a trilogy set in New Orleans. (My favorite city.) And get back to work on that.

Also, I have a couple cover reveals coming up. The sci-fi one is for the boxed set I'm in should be up August 31st. It's pretty sexy, y'all. I can't wait to share it. That should be out in October. The second is for "Other Side of the Line," an interracial, sweet romance that started as a fast friendship when the boys were kids. That will be up as soon as everything is finalized and will be out sometime in September.
I thought it would be fun to post some pictures of places where I wrote recently. It was a three hour train ride so I brought along my laptop and worked on the final edit/read through of "Other Side of the Line." I almost managed to finish it on the train, but not quite. I had the best intentions to finish before bedtime, but by the time I made it to the hotel, found a place to eat and had a beer, I was ready to crash. (I've actually found two beers I like now.) And that hotel room was made for crashing. Now I know I work for a pretty swanky place. My husband calls it the Ivory Tower, but I don't often get to dip my little fingers on this side of the life. Normally, I'm putting together the expense reports on the other side and making the travel reservations. This hotel suite had two separate bathrooms. (Including a bidet.) One with a humongous tub. Now I love a huge tub. I love to read there when I get a chance. So no more working for me that night.

But since I'm used to waking up at 5:30 am and I didn't have to be in training until 9:30. I slept in a bit and had more than enough time to grab a coffee and finish up my edits in the super nice sitting room. I wish my husband and son could've come along. I think they would've loved it. So NYC wasn't the weirdest place I ever wrote, but it was definitely the swankiest!
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">Last week, my day job sent me to NYC to
participate in a pilot training program. It’s been many years since I’ve been
to New York. The last time was 2010 I think when I when up for the Rainbow Book
Fair. I have many memories of the city. The first time was when I was seven and
my dad was transferred from Ohio to base not far from Manhattan. I’ll never
forget the acute shock of going from wide open prairies to those immense skyscrapers
that clawed at the sky. We only lived in New York for a year, but I remember my
time fondly, except for the Catholic school uniforms. Oh I hated those uniforms.

Afterwards, when we lived in Ohio, we
would pass right by Manhattan on our way to visit family in New Hampshire. We
also used the Twin Towers as a landmark for our halfway point. We used to love
coming around the corner and seeing the standing and we talk about our memories
of New York.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">We visited often after we settled down in
Maryland. It’s not a far drive and it’s a nice train ride. My girlfriend and I
used to come up a couple times a year to see a WWE show one night and a
Broadway play the next.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 107%;">After 9/11, it was always such a shock to
come around the corner and have that part of the sky empty. Now after that long
hiatus, when I was sitting on the train, I experienced the same kind of shock
to see the new One World Trade Center building. It’s beautiful, it’s not the
same. I think it’ll always ache to see it, but it’s good to see something there
again. I get the same feeling when I go by the Pentagon. It’s fixed, but I’ll
never forget the sights and sounds of that day.

But it was pretty damn cool to walk out of Madison Square Garden to look up at those giant buildings and get the same feeling I did as a kid. New York City was still New York City. Even being a Red Sox girl, I love it.
